Spellalotl doesn't use accounts, doesn't collect your child's name, doesn't show ads, and doesn't use any tracking or analytics tools. Word lists you create stay on your device unless you explicitly choose to share one — and even then, only the words themselves are shared, never any list title or personal note you've added.

The following never leaves your device — it's stored locally in the app/browser and we never see it:
If you delete the app or clear your browser's site data, this information is permanently deleted along with it — we hold no copy of it anywhere.
A few features need to talk to our server (a Cloudflare Worker) to work. Here's exactly what's sent and why:
Generating hints & example sentences
Sent: the words you type
Why: passed to Anthropic's Claude AI to write a child-friendly hint and sentence for each word
Sharing a list
Sent: the words, hints, example sentences, and optional test date — never the list title
Why: stored anonymously so a short link can be given to someone else (e.g. the other parent, or your child's teacher)
Content safety check
Sent: the words, hints and sentences you're about to share
Why: checked against a blocklist and an AI safety check before a share link is created, so nothing inappropriate can be shared
Premium: better spoken audio (Premium subscribers only)
Sent: the word, or the example sentence, that's about to be spoken — nothing else about you or your child
Why: turned into spoken audio by ElevenLabs. The audio is stored against the text itself (e.g. "glorious"), not against you or your device, so it can be reused
Premium: checking your subscription
Sent: the purchase token Google Play gives the app when you subscribe
Why: our server asks Google Play whether the subscription is active and sends back a short-lived pass. Google handles the payment — we never see your name, email address or payment details
We only ever check content you've typed yourself — hints and sentences the app generates are trusted and not re-checked.
We don't use any advertising or analytics services.
Spellalotl is designed to be used by children under adult supervision, for spelling practice set up by a parent, carer or teacher. The app doesn't ask a child for their name or any other personal information, and list titles — where a name might otherwise be typed — are explicitly kept private on-device and never transmitted.
We ask that anyone setting up a list avoid including a child's name in anything that might be shared (the app's own guidance in the list editor says the same). If a shared list is accidentally found to contain something inappropriate, our content safety check is designed to catch it before the share link is created.
Because Spellalotl doesn't use accounts, most of your data is already entirely in your own control — deleting the app or clearing site data removes it immediately. For the limited data that does reach our server (see above), you can ask us to delete a specific shared list before it expires by contacting us with the share code. Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask what data we hold about you, request its correction or deletion, and lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Spellalotl after a change means you accept the updated policy.
